Virat Kohli stirred speculation over his future with a cryptic post days before India’s ODI series opener against Australia in Perth.
Ahead of his much-anticipated return to international cricket this week in Australia, Virat Kohli has sparked widespread curiosity with a cryptic post on social media, just three days before India’s first ODI at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The post has reignited discussions about his future in the game
“The only time you truly fail is when you decide to give up,” wrote Kohli on Thursday morning in an X post that quickly went viral, garnering over 178,000 views within 25 minutes.
The message has led to intense speculation among fans, with many interpreting it as a sign of Kohli’s renewed focus on his ODI commitments. Kohli last represented India during their Champions Trophy 2025 triumph in the United Arab Emirates, where he played a key role.
Kohli smashed a century against Pakistan in the group stage and made vital contributions in the semi-final against Australia, finishing as India’s second-highest run-scorer of the tournament.

Earlier this year, Kohli endured a tough outing during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, after which he shocked fans by announcing his retirement from Test cricket midway through the IPL 2025 season. Kohli, who led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their maiden title that season, shared an emotional note marking the end of his red-ball journey.
“There’s something deeply personal about playing in whites. The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever. As I step away from this format, it’s not easy — but it feels right. I’ve given it everything I had, and it’s given me back so much more than I could’ve hoped for,” Kohli had then written on social media.
Kohli is now gearing up for his first competitive match since the IPL as India face Australia in a three-match ODI series starting October 19.
