Virender Sehwag opined that workload management is crucial for fast bowlers but unnecessary for batters.
India’s five-Test series in England ended 2-2, with Shubman Gill’s team showing resilience despite missing senior players. The campaign highlighted new performers, but debates arose over workload management. Jasprit Bumrah, though fully fit, featured in only three Tests, sitting out the Oval match where India needed a win. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj played all five games. The decision to rest Bumrah drew mixed reactions from fans and experts.
Batting legend Virender Sehwag weighed in, stressing that workload management is essential for fast bowlers to remain effective in long tournaments. He pointed out that keeping pacers fit boosts India’s chances in major competitions, while workload rarely affects batters.
“I think workload is important, especially for bowlers. For batsmen, I don’t think workload is a problem, since they can play and don’t have to play too many matches anyway. So, I think it’s important mainly for bowlers, especially fast bowlers,” Sehwag said on Sony Sports Network.
“If they are managed properly, they can play for a longer time. For India, it’s important that all fast bowlers stay fit, because in big events like the Asia Cup or World Cup, if they are available, India’s chances of winning will be higher,” he added.
