Wasim Akram criticised Pakistan’s poor batting, bowling, and fielding after their T20 World Cup loss to the USA, calling it a poor show of sportsmanship.
Legendary Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram has heavily criticised his former team’s performance following their shocking defeat to the USA in the T20 World Cup. Pakistan crumbled in a Super Over finish after both teams tied with 159 runs in regulation.
Akram, a key figure in Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup victory, labelled the performance as “pathetic” and expressed concern about their chances of progressing in the tournament. “Winning and losing are part of the game. But you need to fight until the last ball. It was a bad day for Pakistan cricket,” Akram told Star Sports.
He identified the early wickets conceded by Pakistan as a major turning point. “The way the USA got early wickets, Pakistan had a little partnership between Babar and Shadab, and then nobody turned up. The fielding was below average, and the overall cricket by Pakistan was average,” he said.
Akram, a renowned death bowler in his playing days, pointed out Pakistan’s inability to defend a modest total. “While playing against the USA, I was confident; every Pakistani supporter was confident that they would win after the way they played in the first inning. Conceding 18 runs in the Super Over dashed Pakistan’s hopes,” added Akram.

In contrast, Akram lauded the performance of the USA team, particularly captain Monank Patel. “The moment of the day for me was the innings of USA captain Monank Patel, the way he batted… carried his bat. The way he used his suit, as in, he led from the front, Their fielding was spot-on every time, and very impressive cricket from the USA,” concluded the former pacer.
