In the ongoing IPL 2024 season’s opening match at Chennai’s M. Chidambaram Stadium, RCB elected to bat first after winning the toss. In the 11th over’s third ball, Mustafizur Rahman delivered a short ball to Virat Kohli, resulting in a crucial wicket.
Kohli attempted a pull shot to a back of a length delivery, sending the ball airborne. Rahane, positioned at deep mid-wicket, dashed to his right to grab the ball. Sensing he was nearing the boundary, Rahane cleverly passed it towards Ravindra who was running in from deep square leg. Ravindra completed the catch, ensuring Kohli’s dismissal.
This remarkable display of teamwork and game awareness by Rahane and Ravindra shifted the momentum in Chennai’s favor and left RCB reeling at 78/4 after this wicket.
In his first match since January, Kohli showed early promise, scoring 21 runs off 20 balls before being dismissed. Notably, during his innings, he reached the milestone of 12,000 T20 runs, becoming the first Indian and sixth overall to achieve this feat.
Kohli’s wicket was Mustafizur Rahman’s third scalp in the match. Rahman later added another wicket, dismissing Cameron Green for 18 runs. With four wickets already in hand by the 12th over, Rahman’s impressive bowling has reduced RCB to 78 for 5.
Despite CSK losing the toss and bowling first, RCB is facing an uphill battle, as they haven’t defeated CSK in Chennai since IPL 2009.
