During the ongoing AUS W vs SA W 2nd ODI at the North Sydney Oval, Mitchell Starc and Alyssa Healy engaged in a light-hearted conversation involving teammate Kimmy Garth. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Australia put up a spirited performance.
Following their innings, Starc, from the commentator box, queried his wife Alyssa, also the captain of the Australian Women’s team, about the team’s bowling strategy. Specifically, he pondered whether a slightly fuller length from Grath could have been more effective in exploiting the wicket.
“So the length of the opening pair there, and Kimmy Garth, do you reckon they could have bought a fraction fuller with the help of the wicket? You got the catches there for Garth. But, you know, it was holding length and she bowled, really disciplined lines and lengths, but maybe a fraction fuller to get in those edges.” said Starc.
In response to Starc’s critique, Healy humorously acknowledged the possibility of him being more critical in hindsight. She noted that while Kimmy Garth could have possibly bowled a fraction fuller, it aligned with her natural length and role in the team.

“I think if we’re being highly critical, you’re suggesting then. Yes, potentially. Um, Kimmy Garth could have come maybe a fraction fuller, but that is the natural length that she likes to hit. I think she does. Length, uh, it was pretty natural as well,” said Healy.
“So yes, if we’re being ultra-critical, maybe. But uh, in saying that, I think, um, they did a great job to, to hold as well,” she added.
With a chuckle, Starc replied, “Is this about bowling or the commentary? I’m not sure.” The other commentators joined in with playful banter, teasing whether their home conversations were similar.
On the match front, Australia Women, leading 1-0, aims to clinch the series at North Sydney Oval, but rain interrupted the match, bringing it to a pause.
