During the live AUS vs PAK Test, Babar Azam, the former Pakistan captain, appeared in high spirits despite his recent batting struggles in the ongoing series against Australia in Sydney. This Test series marks his initial appearance in red-ball cricket for Pakistan after relinquishing the captaincy following the 2023 ODI World Cup. Babar, averaging 21 in the series with a top score of 41, added a mere 23 runs in Pakistan’s second innings during the third Test against Australia.
The match saw a rapid decline for Pakistan after Babar and Saim Ayub’s dismissals within 16 deliveries, triggering a batting collapse. Despite a 57-run partnership by Azam and Ayub stabilizing Pakistan’s innings after early setbacks, the team crumbled, losing five wickets for only nine runs in 7.1 overs, signaling a sudden downfall in their performance.
Ayub was the first to fall, caught behind by Alex Carey off Josh Hazlewood’s delivery. Following suit, Babar was dismissed by Travis Head’s off-spin, caught by Carey. Hazlewood’s onslaught continued as he claimed Saud Shakeel (2), Sajid Khan, and Agha Salman, all without scoring, leaving Pakistan reeling at 67/7.
Day 3 concluded with Pakistan at 68/7, holding an 82-run lead over the hosts. The visitors’ struggle in Australia persists, having not won a Test there since 1995. Australia, leading 2-0, remains dominant in the three-match Test series.
