The first Test of Ashes 2023 started on June 16. England won the toss and elected to bat first. England continue their Bazball approach against the World Champions Australia. England declared at 393/8 on Day 1 itself. Australia ended on 311/5 on Day 2. Australia were bowled out for 386 before lunch on Day 3.
England had a minor lead of just 7 runs. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley had a slow start to their innings. They were 26/0 in just 6.5 overs and rain interrupted the game and restarted a hour later. Australian bowlers took the full advantage the overcast weather and windy conditions.
In the 4th ball of the 8th over, Cameron Green took an absolute screamer at gully to dismiss Ben Duckett. Pat Cummins got the breakthrough for Australia but it was an extraordinary catch from Cameron Green.
Cameron Green had took 2 excellent catches in World Test Championship 2023 final standing at the same position, one to dismiss in-form Ajinkya Rahane, and in the second innings he took a blinder to dismiss Shubman Gill.
