During the coin toss in the Super Smash New Zealand tournament between Canterbury Magicians and Wellington Blaze, Frances Mackay surprised everyone by tossing the coin like a bumper ball.
In the Canterbury Magicians vs. Wellington Blaze showdown at the Super Smash New Zealand tournament, things got off to a quirky start during the coin toss. Canterbury’s captain, Frances Mackay, decided to spice things up by tossing the coin like a fast bowler throwing a bumper, catching everyone off guard.
Amelia Kerr of Wellington Blaze called tails, securing the toss win. Talking after, Kerr jokingly mentioned a possible pitch dent but confirmed they’d bat first. “There might be a dent in the pitch now, but we are gonna bat first,” Kerr said.
When asked about her unique toss, Mackay shared a playful desire for a change in luck, acknowledging the team’s need for a positive turn.
“Oh, I just liked doing things a bit differently. We probably haven’t had the rub of the green that we would have liked. So change things up at the top and see if it changes the rest of the day,” Mackay explained.
