Rohit Sharma faced a devastating run-out in the India vs Afghanistan T20 clash as confusion between him and Shubman Gill led to both batsmen being at the same end.
In the ongoing India vs. Afghanistan T20 showdown, the second ball of the first over brought an unexpected twist. Facing Fazalhaq Farooqi, Rohit Sharma found himself in a chaotic run-out situation. Farooqi delivered a full-length ball on the stumps, prompting Rohit to charge down the track and direct it towards mid-off.
However, the single turned disastrous as confusion unfolded between Rohit and his opening partner, Shubman Gill, who was watching the ball. Despite Rohit’s efforts, both batsmen ended up at the same end. Ibrahim Zadran’s exceptional diving stop and swift throw to keeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz resulted in Rohit’s run-out, leaving the skipper visibly frustrated. Expressing his anger, Rohit exchanged words with Gill while walking back, marking a disheartening start for India.

Rohit made his return to T20I cricket in the match against Afghanistan, marking his first appearance since India’s loss in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against England. Notably, this game also marked Rohit’s comeback to white-ball international cricket since India’s defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia in November 2023.
Earlier, Afghanistan set India a target of 159 runs, courtesy of Mohammad Nabi’s stellar performance. Despite a solid 50-run opening by skipper Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, India’s Axar Patel and Shivam Dube’s quick wickets added pressure.
Yet, Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai’s resilient 68-run partnership revived Afghanistan. Omarzai’s aggressive 29 off 22 balls ended in the 18th over. Mukesh Kumar claimed Nabi as well, who had already wreaked havoc with 42 runs off 27 balls. Contributions from Najibullah Zadran and Karim Janat took Afghanistan to a total of 158/5 in 20 overs in the first innings.
