Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s blunt remarks to Bangladesh’s players marred the tied third ODI’s combined photograph.
As the players from both teams gathered to pose for what should have been a unifying and celebratory moment, Harmanpreet demanded, “Bring the umpires too” for the click, implying that the umpires showed bias in their decision-making during the match.
A nail-biting third ODI saw India Women match Bangladesh’s 225 runs, resulting in a tie. However, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s anger flared during the run-chase as she vented by smashing the stumps after her dismissal.
As the players posed for the customary photo session after the game, Bangladesh’s captain, Nigar Sultana maintained her composure, silently going through the process. However, she did not mince words when it came to addressing Harmanpreet’s conduct during the post-match press conference. She expressed her disappointment, stating Harmanpreet “could have shown better manners.”
In response to Harmanpreet’s actions and comments, Nigar Sultana emphasized that players should uphold a certain level of decorum on the field. She remarked, “It’s what she did and we have nothing to do about it. But as a player, she should have spoken with a bit of manners.”
Harmanpreet Kaur’s actions, which included smashing the stumps with her bat after her dismissal and making critical remarks against the umpires, have not gone unnoticed. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken a firm stance on her behavior, imposing a hefty fine of 75% of her match fee and handing her four demerit points.
