Pakistan’s unbeaten record at the 2023 Cricket World Cup continued, with a remarkable triumph over Sri Lanka on Tuesday, adding to their impressive victory in the tournament opener against the Netherlands. In a high-scoring contest, Sri Lanka set a challenging target of 344/9, but Pakistan, despite facing a few tense moments, defied the odds by completing the highest successful run chase in the history of the Cricket World Cup, securing a six-wicket victory with 10 balls to spare.
The Hyderabad leg of the 2023 ODI World Cup has concluded for the Pakistan Cricket Team and their final match at the Uppal Stadium saw them achieve the most successful chase. Upon their arrival in Hyderabad nearly a fortnight ago, the visiting team has engaged in two warm-up matches, in addition to participating in two group-stage matches of the ODI World Cup 2023.
Beyond their on-field achievements, Babar Azam and his team also showcased the spirit of cricket in a heartwarming manner. In a gesture of appreciation, the skipper gifted a Pakistan team jersey to the Hyderabad ground staff. Later, Babar was seen alongside his teammates Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, and Muhammad Rizwan, clicking group photographs with the ground staff.
Sadeera Samarawickrama and Kusal Mendis powered Sri Lanka to a formidable total of 344/9 in their innings in the PAK vs SL match. Initially, when Babar Azam departed early with Pakistan at 37/2, Sri Lanka seemed to have the upper hand. However, Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique’s centuries, a 176-run partnership, paved the way for a remarkable six-wicket victory with 10 balls to spare.
Pakistan’s next challenge awaits in Ahmedabad at Narendra Modi Stadium, where they face arch-rivals India on October 14.
