Jasprit Bumrah clashed with Sam Konstas and dismissed Usman Khawaja in a dramatic end to Day 1 of the SCG Test.
The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Series witnessed another dramatic chapter as tensions flared between India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and Australian debutant Sam Konstas during Day 1 of the Sydney Test. This marks the second time Konstas has been involved in a heated exchange with an Indian player, following his earlier confrontation with Virat Kohli during the MCG Test.
The incident unfolded in the final over of Australia’s innings when Bumrah prepared to deliver the last ball of the day. Usman Khawaja, the Australian opener, delayed taking his stance, prompting Bumrah to ask him to be ready. However, Konstas intervened, resulting in an argument between the two players. India struggled earlier in the day as their batting lineup collapsed in the absence of skipper Rohit Sharma, who opted to rest for the match. Despite a resilient knock from Rishabh Pant, the visitors were bowled out for a meager 185. Australia’s reply also began poorly, with Bumrah striking gold in the third over, dismissing Khawaja on the last ball of the day.

Bumrah delivered a full-length, swinging delivery that caught Khawaja off guard. The left-hander edged the ball to KL Rahul at second slip, departing for just 2 runs off 10 balls. The dismissal, however, was overshadowed by Bumrah’s fiery reaction. Ignoring Khawaja, the Indian pacer directed his frustration towards Konstas, who appeared taken aback by the intensity.
As Khawaja walked off, Indian players surrounded Konstas, sending a clear message not to provoke their star pacer. At stumps, Australia stood at 9/1 in 3 overs, setting the stage for an explosive Day 2 of the SCG Test.
