Exhibiting why he is widely regarded as one of the safest fielders in the slip cordon, England’s Joe Root stole the limelight on Day 2 of the ongoing 5th Ashes Test against Australia with a brilliant catch that sent Marnus Labuschagne packing.
The moment unfolded during the 43rd over of Australia’s innings, with England’s fast bowler Mark Wood on a hunt for a breakthrough. Wood’s relentless delivery of four consecutive dot balls kept Marnus Labuschagne pinned at the crease. His fifth delivery, angled in skillfully, found the faint outside edge of Labuschagne’s bat.
With lightning reflexes and timing, Joe Root soared to his left and snatched the ball with one hand – his left. The crowd erupted into wild cheers and even the commentators couldn’t contain their excitement, remarking, “Something was about to happen, and it was something spectacular!”
