MI Cape Town (MICT) captain Kieron Pollard playfully teased Kagiso Rabada for his challenging day against the Paarl Royals on January 19. Rabada, conceding 42 runs in three overs, faced a barrage from Jason Roy, who hit three sixes and a boundary in the first over.
In a video by MI Cape Town, Pollard, praising his team’s resilience, jokingly referred to Rabada’s expensive over, saying, “Congratulations to the guys. The resilience that we have shown in the field, KG (Rabada). After that first over, looking in my direction, says, ‘Skip, I want it.’ I had no choice but to throw it for you. I thought you were in for another three, four, five sixes.”

Despite a challenging start, Pollard lauded Rabada’s resilience after being hit for runs by Jason Roy, acknowledging the bowler’s determination to make a comeback. Rabada eventually got the better of Roy, dismissing him as he attempted a scoop shot.
Pollard also commended left-arm wrist-spinner Thomas Kaber for his pivotal role in restricting the Paarl Royals to 172-8, preventing them from reaching a potentially daunting 200. He highlighted Kaber’s comeback after a tough initial game.
MI Cape Town’s successful chase of 173 owed much to batters Rassie van der Dussen (41 off 28) and the prolific Ryan Rickelton (94* off 52), who leads the SA20 2024 run charts with an impressive 337 runs in four games.
