After a devastating loss to South Africa by an innings, India’s defeat prompted Michael Vaughan’s query about the team’s underachievement, highlighting their lack of major victories.
Following a crushing defeat against South Africa, India suffered an innings loss due to Dean Elgar’s commanding 185, leading to doubts raised about India’s underachievement in cricket. In a discussion with Fox Sports, Vaughan pointed out India’s lack of recent major victories despite possessing significant talent and resources.
India, in terms of cricket, are they one of the most underachieving sports teams?” Vaughan was asked.
“Well, I think they are. They don’t win anything. When was the last time they had won something? With all the talent they have, all the skills and resources? But the last two World Cups, nowhere. T20 World Cup, nowhere. Well, they are a good team, they have got plenty of talent. But I just don’t think they are winning,” Vaughan answered when talking to Fox Cricket.
On the match front, South Africa took a commanding lead of 163 runs after their first innings. India was expected to come back strong with a different pitch, but the Proteas maintained their dominance. They caused India to collapse while batting, winning the match by an innings and 32 runs.
Starting the day at 256/5, South Africa’s Dean Elgar and Marco Jansen kept attacking Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna. Jansen achieved his highest Test score of 84 not out.
Meanwhile, in his final Test series, Dean Elgar scored a solid 150 and extended his innings to 185 before Shardul Thakur dismissed him. Gerald Coetzee contributed 19 runs before Ravi Ashwin got him out. South Africa ended their innings at 408, with Temba Bavuma not coming out to bat.
