Despite speculation about retirement, MS Dhoni put on a display of power hitting in training, smashing huge ‘sixes’, ahead of the upcoming IPL season.
Speculation continues to swirl regarding MS Dhoni’s future as a player, with some believing the upcoming IPL season might be his last. However, the 42-year-old has silenced any doubts about his commitment by displaying impressive hitting during training sessions.
A recent social media video went viral, showcasing Dhoni launching massive sixes in his vintage ‘helicopter’ style at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This clip was followed by his earlier return to Chepauk, where a video of Dhoni running sparked a frenzy among fans. Watch the ‘helicopter’ shot at the practice session below:
Though MS Dhoni performed brilliantly in the nets, his mobility was hampered by a knee injury throughout the 2023 IPL season, often causing him to limp. However, he persevered and led CSK to a thrilling victory in the finals, securing their fifth IPL title and tying them with the Mumbai Indians for the most championship wins in the league’s history.
Earlier, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan had also echoed a positive sentiment surrounding Dhoni’s fitness before he joined the CSK camp. “He has recovered well from his knee injury. He is undergoing rehab programs and has started training. By the time the next IPL starts, I am sure he will be fit to play,” said Kasi.
However, the Chennai Super Kings faced a setback, with New Zealand opener Devon Conway missing the first half of the tournament due to thumb surgery. Nevertheless, their focus remains sharp, as they will kick off IPL 2024 against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22nd at the Chepauk Stadium.
