Najmul Hossain Shanto made a blunder as he appealed for an LBW review in Taijul Islams over what seemed to be a clear-cut defense from Kusal Mendis’ side.
A lighthearted moment unfolded during the second Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at Chattogram, leaving everyone from players to commentators in stitches. The incident saw Bangladeshi batter Najmul Hossain Shanto appeal for an LBW, which was far from taking a review.
During Sri Lanka’s first innings, Taijul Islam delivered a flighted ball on the 43rd over that drifted towards the stumps. Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis, on strike, confidently stepped out and defended the delivery with his bat nowhere near the pad.
However, Shanto seemed to have a different perspective. Perhaps deceived by the flight of the ball, he believed it might have nicked Mendis’ pad. In a hilarious turn of events, Shanto signaled for a review, appealing for a Leg Before Wicket (LBW) dismissal. Watch the video below:
The replay clearly showed Mendis’ clean defence, leaving everyone on the field, including the commentators, in a burst of laughter. The on-field umpire rightfully turned down the appeal, and even Shanto could not help but crack a smile after realising his mistake.
However, Kusal Mendis’ innings did end later, as Shakib Al Hasan scalped his wicket in the 71st over. The wicketkeeper-batter got beaten by the edge and was caught behind at the first slip by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
