Amid rain-induced play suspension in Colombo, Shaheen Afridi extended his heartfelt congratulations to new dad Jasprit Bumrah, presenting a ‘special’ gift to his newborn baby.
During the Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours match in Colombo, Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi displayed a touching act of kindness, warmly congratulating new father Jasprit Bumrah when play was interrupted due to rain.
Afridi presented a beautifully wrapped red gift box to celebrate the arrival of Bumrah’s newborn baby. The heartwarming encounter occurred at the R Premadasa Stadium before both players returned to their team hotels. In a heartfelt moment, Afridi expressed his congratulations and extended his best wishes for the health and happiness of Bumrah’s baby.
Bumrah and his wife Sanjana Ganeshan welcomed a baby boy a week ago. Afridi handed over a gift box, expressing hope that the newborn would become the next “baby Bumrah.” Bumrah, deeply moved by the gesture, warmly labeled it as “very sweet.”
The video capturing this touching exchange between two cricketing stars was later shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board on the social media platform, X.

Heavy rain in Colombo on Sunday forced the Super Fours match to be rescheduled for the Reserve Day. The interruption came with India at 147 for 2 after 24.1 overs, and rain persisted for over an hour. Despite the rain halting, the field remained waterlogged, rendering it unsuitable for play.
On-field umpires voiced concerns about the persisting wet patches, despite the diligent efforts of Sri Lankan groundstaff. The Super Fours match is now set to recommence on Monday, September 11, at 3 p.m. IST to make up for the lost play.
