Mushfiqur Rahim’s touch to the bouncing ball off Kyle Jamieson in the Bangladesh vs. New Zealand Test resulted in his unusual dismissal.
During the Bangladesh vs. New Zealand Test match, in the 40th over, Mushfiqur Rahim faced Kyle Jamieson. Unexpectedly, Rahim’s action of touching the ball while it bounced off the ground led to his dismissal, marking the first time a Bangladeshi batter was out this way.
The delivery landed on a tough length around off-stump, Rahim, stationed in his crease, tapped the ball lightly, and then, oddly flicked it away with his hands, despite no threat to the stumps. New Zealand players appealed, prompting a review that confirmed Rahim deliberately handled the ball. This action of ‘obstructing the field’ gifted New Zealand a crucial breakthrough, forcing Rahim’s departure from the crease.

Scoring 35 runs, Rahim’s exit has further pressured the home team. His departure marked the fifth dismissal with the team’s score below 150 on the opening day of the second Test. Mitchell Santner and Ajaz Patel’s dual strikes rattled Bangladesh’s top order earlier, claiming two wickets apiece.
Rahim’s unfortunate dismissal for handling the ball has made him the eighth cricketer in Tests and the 11th overall in men’s cricket to be given out in this manner.
