In a heartwarming video shared on Blackcaps’ official Twitter handle, Matilda and Angus were seen seeing off the New Zealand cricketers in the airport.
The New Zealand cricket team, aka the Black Caps, officially departed for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean on Wednesday, May 29th. This news comes after a unique announcement of the 15-player squad by two 10-year-olds, Angus and Matilda, who even came in to see off the Kiwis at the airport.
The two kids were seen in the video shared by New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on social media. Watch the video below:
Angus and Matilda were spotted interacting with the squad at the check-in desk, asking them lighthearted questions like “What would they be watching on the plane?” and “Who will they miss the most?” They also congratulated each player and took photos with them before the team departed for the global tournament.
Meanwhile, several Kiwi players, including captain Kane Williamson, Mitchell Santner, Lockie Ferguson, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Trent Boult, and Glenn Phillips, are coming off their participation in the recently concluded IPL 2024 in India. Others competed in a five-match T20I series in Pakistan. Notably, the Williamson-led team will not be playing any warm-up matches before diving straight into the group stage games.
