During the BBL 2023-24, Nikhil Chaudhary, a player for Hobart Hurricanes, had a Hindi conversation with Brett Lee and later had the opportunity to meet his idol in person after the match.
Nikhil, a recent debutant known for aggressive batting, emerged as the league’s second Indian-origin player after Unmukt Chand, who relocated to the USA for cricket advancement.
In a widely circulated video on the KFC Big Bash League’s Twitter, Nikhil was captured dashing eagerly to meet his idol, drawing cheers from fans. Their meeting culminated in an embrace, followed by the 27-year-old requesting a selfie. Brett Lee, intrigued, asked for Nikhil’s signature celebration move, which he enthusiastically demonstrated. The duo then recreated the move together, sharing moments captured in photographs.

Earlier, during the match, the BBL’s customary practice of commentators interacting with players had continued, featuring Brett Lee engaging with Nikhil. Lee, in Hindi, inquired about the all-rounder’s well-being, to which he responded positively. Admitting he was still learning Hindi, Lee welcomed Chaudhary warmly. Surprised by Lee’s Hindi, Nikhil praised him, remarking, ” ‘Your Hindi is too good mate.”
In his BBL debut, Nikhil showcased his hitting prowess, scoring 40 runs against Perth Scorchers, securing a spot in the playing eleven. His fame escalated after smashing a powerful shot over point off Pakistan’s Haris Rauf.
