A thrilling moment during India’s T20 World Cup warm-up match against Bangladesh on Saturday in New York was seen, which involved a security breach. A fan bypassed security and rushed towards Indian captain Rohit Sharma on the field.
A video circulating on social media showed New York police officers swiftly apprehending the fan. The situation became tense as officers attempted to handcuff the pitch invader. Observing the scene closely, Rohit Sharma appeared to intervene, urging the police to remain calm.
When his pleas were initially disregarded, Rohit reportedly called upon a member of the team management, who further appealed to the officers for a less forceful approach. Additional officers arrived and escorted the fan off the field. Watch the video below:
Despite the disruption, India secured a convincing 60-run victory over Bangladesh. The match also served as an opportunity for the team to experiment with their bowling attack, with eight bowlers utilised throughout the innings.
However, questions remain regarding India’s batting order choices. Notably, former skipper Virat Kohli, who recently rejoined the squad, did not play in the match.

Opener Sanju Samson, chosen over young talent Yashasvi Jaiswal, could only manage one run. Captain Rohit Sharma fared slightly better with 12 runs, but his dismissal left India at 55/1 after the powerplay.
Rishabh Pant, promoted up the batting order and given wicketkeeping duties, impressed with a 53-run knock before retiring hurt. He provided crucial partnerships with both Rohit and Shivam Dube (14 runs).
After a comfortable warm-up win, India will next play against Ireland on June 5th, which will also be the team’s T20 World Cup opener.
