India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, faced another hilarious moment during the toss for the 1st T20I against Afghanistan when he forgot the name of a teammate who was absent. Renowned for his forgetfulness, Rohit, after a streak of 11 lost tosses, finally won and chose to bowl.
When questioned by Murali Karthik about the team news, Rohit animatedly struggled to recall Kuldeep Yadav’s name, who was missing out along with Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Avesh Khan.

Rohit’s occasional memory lapses at the toss are not a new occurrence; in a similar incident last year, he faced a momentary blank during an ODI against New Zealand in Raipur, forgetting the decision he intended to make after winning the toss.
Making a comeback as India’s T20I captain after 14 months, Rohit chose to bowl first, citing the pitch’s stability. Expressing the team’s focus on international success, he highlighted the significance of the 3-match series with limited T20Is leading to the World Cup.
“I wasn’t in the team for the entire last year, but I’ve been talking to Rahul bhai about what we are doing and understand what we need to do as a group. There is IPL, but this is an international game and we’ll try to achieve a few things. Winning is the most important thing. Sanju (Samson), Avesh (Khan), (Yashasvi) Jaiswal (who didn’t pull up well)… and Kuldeep are not playing,” Rohit said.
In the inaugural T20I, India will be without star batsman Virat Kohli, who is unavailable due to personal reasons. Simultaneously, Afghanistan’s key bowler, Rashid Khan, won’t feature in the playing XI as he continues to recuperate from a lower-back surgery.
