In the ongoing India vs Afghanistan T20I at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Rohit Sharma faced Fareed Ahmad’s first ball with an attempt to flick it away on a good length angling into the pads. The result, however, was an unexpected thud on the pads, with the ball running to the fence for four leg-byes. Despite replays revealing an inside edge, Rohit remained a bit unfortunate not to have opened his account in the series.
While changing ends after the over, Rohit queried the umpire about the first boundary off the thigh pad, joking about his recent two ducks in the last two outings.
“Arey Viru (Virender Sharma), pehle wala Thigh pad Diya tha kya? Itna bada bat laga hai. Ek toh idhar 2 zero ho gaya hain (Hey Viru, did you give the first one off the thigh pad? Already got two ducks here),“ Rohit was heard joking to the umpire.

On the match front, India faces a challenging situation with four quick wickets lost in the powerplay against Afghanistan. Opting to bat first, India witnessed the early dismissals of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shivam Dube, and Sanju Samson within five overs. Fareed Ahmad has been Afghanistan’s standout bowler, claiming three wickets in three overs.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma mentioned their decision to bat first, aiming to experiment with different strategies and test the bench strength. Notably, Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav, and Avesh Khan have replaced Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Jitesh Sharma.
