The incident unfolded in the 14th over. Chasing a delivery that went down the leg side, Kohli called for a quick single. However, Axar seemed hesitant and struggled to make his ground. The dismissal came at a crucial juncture, with India looking to build a strong platform for a big total. Patel’s knock, characterised by clean strokes and smart running, had provided stability to the middle order. Since the beginning of India’s innings, the runs have been rolling at a steady rate despite the skipper Rohit Sharma’s quick dismissal, followed by Rishabh Pant (0) and Suryakumar Yadav’s (3).
However, Virat Kohli stabilised India’s innings by staying till the 19th over and played a brilliant knock of 76 runs off 59 balls to push India to a respectable total. Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube too played a late quickfire to push India to 176 runs.
