West Indies’ Test debutant Shamar Joseph, dismissing star batter Steve Smith on his first ball in the AUS vs WI Test, expressed immense joy, deeming it his best wicket.
The Australia vs. West Indies Test series opening day at the Adelaide Oval showcased an intense battle. Shamar Joseph’s much-anticipated debut brought an unexpected twist as he was crucial in guiding the visitors to a respectable first-innings total.
In the 9th over, Joseph’s good-length delivery angled back, inducing a thick outside edge from Steve Smith’s attempted defense. The fielder at third slip secured a low catch, marking a sensational start to Joseph’s Test career. Unfortunately, Smith’s inaugural outing as an opener fell short, as he departed for just 12 runs in 25 deliveries.

“To be fair, I really love Steve Smith. The way he plays and goes about his cricket. And getting Steve Smith, I would remember this for the rest of my life. I will actually take a picture of this and post it up in my house,” Shamar Joseph said after the day’s play.
Opting to bowl after winning the toss, Australia had a stellar day, successfully limiting the West Indies to a modest total of 188. Australian pacers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins took center stage, each securing four wickets, and dominating the proceedings.
In the second innings, Joseph also claimed the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne. This dual scalp has offered the West Indies a crucial breakthrough, concluding the day with Australia at 59/2, trailing by 129 runs.
