A gripping showdown unfolded at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday, July 25, as the Harare Hurricanes faced off against Cape Town Samp Army. S Sreesanth showcased his bowling prowess, defending 8 runs in the last over against Cape Town Samp Army.

Sreesanth’s crucial dismissals of Karim Janat and Sean Williams led the match into a nail-biting Super Over. The Hurricanes kept their composure, with batters Mohammad Nabi and Donovan Ferreira leading them to victory, securing a vital win. 

Batting first, the Harare Hurricanes encountered a shaky start with early dismissals of Robin Uthappa (0), Regis Chakabva (0), and Evin Lewis (3) by Sheldon Cottrell. Donovan Ferreira, however, showed resilience amidst the fall of wickets, keeping the scoreboard ticking. While Eoin Morgan (3), Mohammad Nabi (4), and Samit Patel (1) departed cheaply, Ferreira notched up a remarkable half-century. Teaming up with Luke Jongwe, Ferreira’s stunning 87* off 33 balls, laced with 8 sixes and 6 boundaries, propelled the Hurricanes to 115/6.

In their chase, Samp Army’s opening duo Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Tadiwanashe Marumani laid a solid foundation with a quick 32-run stand. The partnership flourished to 58 before Gurbaz was bowled by Samit Patel for 56. Rajapaksa departed for 9, courtesy of Mohammad Nabi and then S Sreesanth announced his arrival with a wicket, dismissing Janat for 16 on the first ball he bowled.

In a dramatic final over, Sreesanth displayed his brilliance on the field by dismissing Sean Williams with exceptional fielding. With nerves of steel, he delivered precise bowling, leading the match to a thrilling Super Over as the scores remained tied after the last ball.

Remarkably, this was Sreesanth’s debut appearance in the tournament.
