The Sri Lanka Cricket Team mockingly received the Bangladesh Test series win trophy in their practice jersey, serving a playful jab to their opponent.
Sri Lanka secured a dominant victory over Bangladesh, winning both Tests in the two-match series and clinching a clean sweep. The commanding win was further emphasized by a playful post-match celebration that stole a lot of attention among cricket fans.
Following their triumph in Chattogram, the visitors arrived at the presentation ceremony sporting their practice kits, not their official jerseys. This lighthearted prank poked fun at the series, suggesting the matches were mere practice sessions for the visitors. Watch the video below:
Turning to the action on the field, Sri Lanka’s dominance began by electing to bat first. Openers Nishan Madushka and Dimuth Karunaratne laid a strong foundation with scores of 57 and 86 runs, respectively. Further contributions from Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis propelled Sri Lanka to a formidable total of 531 runs in the first inning.
Bangladesh’s response was underwhelming. Their batting faltered against the visitor’s bowling attack, scoring only 178 runs. Asitha Fernando emerged as a formidable bowler, claiming four wickets in a fiery spell.
Sri Lanka, with a massive lead, declared their second inning at 157 runs, setting Bangladesh a daunting target of 511 runs for victory. The hosts showed some fight in the second inning, with Mominul Haque scoring a fifty and Mehidy Hasan Miraz remaining unbeaten at 81. However, Bangladesh’s resistance crumbled as they were bowled out for 318 runs, handing Sri Lanka a convincing 192-run victory and a series sweep.
The two teams will meet again at the T20 World Cup and will face each other on June 8th during the group stage matches of the tournament.
