Suryakumar Yadav received the Best Fielder Medal from Sir Vivian Richards for his exceptional efforts during the India vs. Bangladesh clash in Antigua.
After a powerful and dominating performance in Antigua against Bangladesh, Suryakumar Yadav received the best fielder medal from Sir Vivian Richards himself in the dressing room. Among the recipients was the skipper, Rohit Sharma, for his great efforts in fielding in the match.
In a video shared by BCCI TV and the Indian cricket team’s official Instagram handle, Yadav received the medal from Richards, who in turn commended the whole Indian cricket team for their brilliant showcasing.
“What can I say to a team that is already powerful? The way you guys are playing your cricket, I’m loving and enjoying it.” said Vivian in the video.
After receiving the medal, the ecstatic Yadav also shared some words. “Mohammed Siraj set the benchmark really high on the field from game one, and I’m really happy to have this medal from Sir Richards himself. It feels good. Hopefully, this journey with the medal continues and gives me a lot of motivation and inspiration as well,” concluded Suryakumar.
Speaking of the match, batting first, India reached a strong 196 despite the early dismissals of Kohli and Sharma. Pant and Dube provided a middle-order boost, while a late cameo from Pandya propelled them to a big total. Bangladesh’s chase faltered early, with Pandya dismissing opener Das.
The skipper, Shanto, offered some resistance but fell to Bumrah. With wickets tumbling regularly, Bangladesh were restricted to 146, handing India a dominant 50-run victory. Notably, Kuldeep Yadav was the highest wicket-taker with three wickets.
The Indian cricket team will next play against Australia on June 24th and will likely hope to continue their winning streak in this tournament to finish the Super 8 stage strong.
