Rashid Khan and his Afghanistan team, along with the other staff, celebrated their historic ODI victory over Pakistan by dancing in the dressing room after an eight-wicket win in Chennai.

Afghanistan orchestrated a remarkable eight-wicket victory over Pakistan, dealing them their third consecutive loss in the 2023 World Cup. In pursuit of 283 runs, Afghanistan confidently cruised to their historic win, propelled by outstanding batting displays from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65), Ibrahim Zadran (87), and Rahmat Shah (77). This win marked Afghanistan’s maiden ODI victory over Pakistan, rejuvenating their World Cup campaign. Earlier in the tournament, they had already demonstrated their mettle with another win over the defending champions, England.

The exuberant celebrations were captured in a video shared by the Afghanistan cricket board, where Rashid Khan and his teammates, including Ibrahim Zadran and Hashmatullah Shahidi, danced exuberantly in the dressing room, with Rashid Khan leading the way in a spirited display of jubilation.

Earlier on the ground, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan had also joined Rashid Khan in a post-match dance celebration after Afghanistan’s victory. Pathan didn’t mince words when he criticized Babar Azam’s captaincy, describing it as lackluster in the World Cup and accusing him of allowing the game to slip away.

Babar Azam expressed his disappointment in the post-match presser, acknowledging that Pakistan’s subpar performance in bowling and fielding hurt them, allowing Afghanistan to secure the win with strong all-around play. He emphasized the need for improvements, especially in taking wickets during the middle overs and containing boundaries.

In contrast, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afghanistan’s captain, was jubilant and pledged to maintain a positive approach, building on their remarkable victory.

“This win tastes nice. The way we chased was very professional. Looking forward for the other games. The way we chased today, we’ll do it again. We have been playing quality cricket, the belief was there when we played the Asia Cup as well. First was England, today Pakistan, looking forward to the other games. The spin bowling deprogramming was very good. Noor showed his talent. Gurbaz and Ibrahim gave the momentum and confidence,” said Shahidi.
