In an exclusive video released by the BCCI, Kohli revealed the story of how their conversation began.
Kohli shared that the Serbian star had initiated contact by sending him a direct message on Instagram, a revelation that caught him pleasantly off guard. Expressing mutual admiration, Kohli extended good luck wishes for Djokovic’s Australian Open campaign.
“I was looking at his profile once on Instagram and happened to press the ‘message’ button to say hello maybe. And then I saw a message from him on my DM already,” he said.

Kohli also expressed his willingness to meet Djokovic either in India or during the Serbian’s overseas competitions, underlining the inspirational message their respectful bond imparts to the younger generation.
Djokovic had recently shared insights into his unique bond with Kohli, highlighting their ongoing connection through text messages. Despite not having met Kohli in person, he expressed the lasting nature of their communication in an exclusive interview with Sony Sports.
“I’ve great relationships with eminent personalities like Sachin, Virat and many others. I’ve been in touch with Virat Kohli over texts for a few years, but we have never met in person. It was a privilege to hear him speak kindly about me. I admire his career and achievements,” said Djokovic.
Djokovic is presently in Australia, eyeing his eleventh Australian Open title as the defending champion. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, having missed the first T20I against Afghanistan in Indore for personal reasons, is set to play in the second game.
