Yashasvi Jaiswal was run-out after a bizarre mis-communication with Shubman Gill.
India are in firm control of the second Test against the West Indies in Delhi, building their dominance on the back of a magnificent innings from opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The young batter was in sublime touch, racing to 173 by the end of the first day. However, his quest for a double century was cut short in a moment of misfortune on the second morning.
A disastrous mix-up with captain Shubman Gill resulted in Yashasvi Jaiswal being run out for 175, leaving him visibly frustrated as he departed the crease missing out on a career-defining 200. The dismissal occurred when Jaiswal drove the ball to mid-off and immediately set off for a run, only to find his partner rooted at the non-striker’s end.
Jaiswal fails to make it to his maiden double ton
Jaiswal’s desperate attempt to return was too late, with wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach completing the run-out. Forced to walk back, the disappointed batter was seen speaking to Gill, “it was your call and you were running towards the danger end.”
His brilliant 175-run knock was still historic, as he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s major record, having slammed five scores of more than 150 runs in an innings in Tests. Nevertheless, Jaiswal was unhappy with Gill’s miscommunication and his reaction went viral on social media. Watch the clip below:
Even after Jaiswal’s departure, India looks in strong control during the first session of Day 2. Currently, at the time of writing, Shubman Gill and Nitish Reddy are currently at the crease as India cruises past 360 runs at the end of 100 overs.
If West Indies need to gain back control, they will need to up the ante and fire back with their bowling attack which has been blunt apparently throughout Day 1 except for Jomel Warrican who scalped 2 wickets.
