Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled against pacers during India’s training session ahead of the Bangladesh Test series, prompting guidance from Virat Kohli and others.
During India’s training session on Monday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Yashasvi Jaiswal faced a tough challenge from the pacers, particularly Jasprit Bumrah, who knocked his stump over. While waiting for his turn to bat, Virat Kohli observed Jaiswal’s struggles closely. The left-hander was repeatedly beaten by the pacers on both edges of the bat.
Kohli called Jaiswal over for a brief chat, offering tips on how to shoulder arms and leave deliveries based on their length. Despite the advice, Jaiswal’s difficulties persisted.
As this unfolded, head coach Gautam Gambhir intervened, taking Jaiswal to the nets for a focused session. For the next 15-20 minutes, Jaiswal worked on facing throwdowns, concentrating on getting behind the line of the ball.
Jaiswal, who scored an impressive 712 runs in the last Test series against England, appeared rusty during the session. His recent IPL performance lacked consistency, with only one fifty and one century, and he warmed the bench during the T20 World Cup.

It was not just Bumrah who troubled Jaiswal; pacers Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, and net bowler Yudhvir Singh from Jammu and Kashmir also put him under pressure. Bumrah managed to sneak a ball between Jaiswal’s bat and pad to hit the middle stump, while Akash Deep repeatedly tested him with deliveries moving away. These struggles prompted Gambhir to arrange the extra net session.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Key For Bangladesh Test Series Win
As India gears up for the upcoming season, beginning with the Test series against Bangladesh on Thursday, Jaiswal carries significant expectations. His promising entry into international cricket has attracted attention, with players like Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon looking forward to facing the 22-year-old.
Jaiswal, known for his aggressive stroke play, was in fine form against spinners during the training session, dispatching several powerful shots on the leg side. However, his struggles against the pacers have raised concerns.
Despite the rustiness, India remains confident in Jaiswal’s abilities, especially with five home tests before their tour of Australia. Jaiswal’s attacking brand of cricket makes him a key player in India’s future prospects, and the team is likely to back him for the upcoming challenges.
