Younis Khan To Guide Afghanistan in Pakistan

Younis Khan was confirmed as Afghanistan’s mentor for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, marking his return to the team’s support staff.
Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has been appointed as the mentor for the Afghanistan cricket team for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, set to be held in Pakistan. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed the development on Wednesday through its spokesperson Sayeed Naseem Sadat.
“ACB has assigned former experienced top-order Pakistani player Younis Khan as Mentor for Champions Trophy 2025. He (Younis) will join the team before the event starts in Pakistan,” Sadat revealed to Cricbuzz.

Younis, who briefly served as Afghanistan’s batting coach in 2022, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. The former batting maestro amassed 10,099 runs in 118 Tests, including a career-best score of 313. Notably, he achieved the top spot in the ICC Test batting rankings during his career and captained Pakistan to their first-ever T20 World Cup triumph in 2009.
Post-retirement, Younis ventured into coaching, taking on various roles, including a short stint as Pakistan’s batting coach. He also contributed to franchise cricket, working with Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and recently serving as head coach for the Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
