Yuvraj Singh Backs Shivam Dube to Shine at T20 World Cup, Calls for Key Role in Middle Order

Yuvraj Singh supported Shivam Dube’s inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad, citing his strong IPL performance, while expressing disappointment for Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh.

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh expressed confidence in Shivam Dube’s potential to significantly impact the Indian men’s cricket team during the T20 World Cup 2024. Dube’s impressive performance for Chennai Super Kings, scoring 396 runs in 14 matches with a striking rate of 162.29, caught attention. Initially recognized as a batter, he also showcased his right-arm medium-pace bowling skills against Punjab Kings.

Yuvraj praised Dube’s consistency in both the IPL and the recent T20 series for India, stating his ability to reinforce the team’s middle to lower middle order. Despite tough competition for squad slots, Yuvraj believes Dube’s inclusion will strengthen India’s T20 team.

“I think with Shivam Dube, the last T20 series he played for India, I think he did well. And he’s been very consistent in the IPL as well. I just felt the kind of form he’s in, it was important for him to be in the squad. I really think he can make a huge difference in the middle order or the lower middle order, so it’s good to see him in the Indian T20 squad,” Yuvraj told ICC.

“It was hard to, if you look at the guys, it was a hard squad to make, and unfortunately couple of really guys missed out but that’s just the nature of selecting the World Cup squad I guess,” he added.

Furthermore, Yuvraj empathized with both Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill, acknowledging their impressive track records. He noted Rinku’s consistent display for both India and KKR, highlighting notable improvements in his batting over recent years.

Rinku faced disappointment as he was relegated to India’s reserve list for the T20 World Cup. While his performance in IPL 2024 was lackluster, Rinku’s form was outstanding form in international T20 matches, accumulating 356 runs in 11 innings at a remarkable strike rate of 176.23.

“It was a bit unfortunate for Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh. If I talk about Rinku, obviously he has been in good form for India and he has done so well for KKR. Unfortunate for him and Shubman obviously, scoring tons of runs, from the last year someone who has scored the most number of hundreds for India. From the last two years, and to miss out, as I said that’s the nature of selecting a World Cup squad and I’m sure these guys will be the first ones whenever there’s an opportunity,” Yuvraj concluded.
