Yuvraj Singh humorously predicted that he hopes India reaches the final and joked about not wanting Australia to be their opponent, while also mentioning West Indies and Pakistan as potential finalists.
Yuvraj Singh, ICC Ambassador for the T20 World Cup, light-heartedly shared his hopes for the tournament, expressing his desire to see India in the final without the presence of Australia. He also mentioned the West Indies and Pakistan as potential finalists.
The 2024 T20 World Cup has expanded to a 20-team format, providing opportunities for associate and lower-ranked nations to compete on the world stage while maintaining the presence of traditional powerhouses.
India and Pakistan are expected to advance from Group A, which also includes Ireland, the USA, and Canada. Defending champions England and the 2021 winners, Australia, have a relatively easier path in Group B, facing Namibia, Oman, and Scotland. Group C is anticipated to be highly competitive, with the West Indies, New Zealand, and Afghanistan vying for the top two spots that lead to the next round. South Africa is favored to progress from Group D, which includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, and Nepal.
“I’m hoping India, probably West Indies. Pakistan 3, and no Australians (laughs),” Yuvraj said.
Yuvraj also expressed anticipation for Rishabh Pant’s return post-injury and acknowledged Virat Kohli’s impressive IPL performance. Additionally. while the former cricketer believes Kohli could be the leading run-scorer in the tournament, he confidently stated that his record of six sixes in an over will remain unmatched in this World Cup.
“I am looking forward to the return of Rishabh, he is coming back from a massive injury. And the leading run-getter seems like Virat Kohli, he’s had a very good IPL,” Yuvraj said.
“I think it’s very much possible, but I don’t think it’s happening in this tournament (breaking his record of six sixes in an over),” he concluded.
