Zaheer Khan highlighted that while MS Dhoni has a deep passion for cricket, he also recognizes that it should not encompass everything in his life.

Former India teammate Zaheer Khan emphasized that while cricket remains a significant aspect of MS Dhoni’s life, he acknowledges that it shouldn’t consume everything. At 42, Dhoni, a two-time World Cup-winning captain, is preparing to lead Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL.

Apart from his cricket achievements, Dhoni’s leadership has led CSK to a record five IPL titles. Despite retiring from international cricket four years ago, Dhoni’s legacy continues to resonate. Zaheer’s insights were shared in a dedicated episode on JioCinema.

“MS Dhoni understood a long time ago that he is passionate about cricket and it is an integral part of his life. But it couldn’t be everything,” Zaheer said.

“When you step away from the game, you may not have a lot of options. We’ve seen many athletes struggle after retiring because they gave everything to the game, and when they left it, they didn’t know what to do. In this sense, MS Dhoni understood a long time ago that he is passionate about cricket and it is an integral part of his life. But it couldn’t be everything. He keeps doing things outside of the sport. For example, his interest in bikes. He’s always researching them,” he added.

Former India and CSK all-rounder Suresh Raina also expressed his desire for MS Dhoni to continue playing in the IPL for another five years, highlighting the question of who will succeed Dhoni as captain. Raina emphasized Dhoni’s potential role in mentoring future leaders and suggested Ruturaj Gaikwad as a potential candidate.

Raina further underscored the significance of this IPL season for CSK, urging Dhoni to focus on grooming the team’s future leadership. These remarks come ahead of the IPL opener between CSK and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22nd in Chennai.
