Robin Uthappa believes Afghanistan’s bowling attack will challenge India’s batting in their upcoming T20 World Cup Super 8s match.
Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa believes bowling and batting will be the key factors for Afghanistan and India, respectively, in their upcoming T20 World Cup Super 8s clash.
Uthappa highlighted Afghanistan’s strong bowling attack, naming bowlers like Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Karim Janat. “I think this game is going to be Afghanistan’s bowling versus India’s batting. I think that’s where the competition is. I feel their bowlers are of pretty high calibre. You can take Naveen-ul-Haq or Fazalhaq Farooqi. I like Omarzai with the ball, too. Karim Janat is pretty decent with the ball. Noor Ahmed is very good,” said Uthappa on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel, as quoted by Sportskeeda.
However, Uthappa expressed confidence in the Indian batting line-up’s ability to counter the challenge. “But will Indian batters have the answers? I certainly think so,” he said. While acknowledging that some Indian batters haven’t found form yet, Uthappa believes their potential can turn the tide. “The Indian batters necessarily haven’t come to the party. Calibre is definitely there. The potential is 100% there. Now, turning that into performance in a big tournament like this,” concluded Uthappa. He suggested that a slow start might prove to be a blessing in disguise, allowing the batters to peak at the right time.
India will face Afghanistan on June 20th in Barbados. They won their group-stage matches against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA, with their final game against Canada being washed out.
