Bhuvneshwar Kumar praised the SRH bowlers for their crucial role in securing the win despite the team’s batters dominating the headlines.
Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers are quietly proving their worth despite the team’s batting firepower stealing the spotlight in IPL 2024, according to pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. SRH’s batters put on yet another dominant display on Saturday, piling up a massive 266 runs against the Delhi Capitals. This marked the third time this season the Hyderabad franchise has crossed the 250-run mark.
However, Bhuvneshwar emphasised the crucial role of bowlers, especially in T20 cricket, where pitches often favour batters. “Bowling is something that wins you matches. I don’t know who said this, but ‘batting wins you the sponsorships, and bowling wins you the championships’. That’s very well said,” remarked the pacer.
Kumar highlighted the pressure faced by bowlers when defending high scores. He said, “When you defend, almost 250 (tonight), but it came down to the last few overs. The way we are bowling is pretty good. It looks bad on the scoreboard, but the way we have executed our plans, it’s pretty good.”

While the match featured explosive batting from both sides, the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers managed to restrict the Delhi Capitals to 199 runs, securing a comfortable 67-run victory. Bhuvneshwar himself played a key role, bowling economical overs in the powerplay, conceding a total of 33 runs, and taking a wicket.
However, Bhuvneshwar did not fail to praise T. Natarajan, who had the best bowling figures for the team. “We know how good he’s (Natarajan) when it comes to Yorkers. He’s someone who keeps working hard, a silent guy who goes unnoticed most of the time. He’s truly a matchwinner,” quipped Kumar.
Though he signalled a strong sentiment for bowlers as match winners, Kumar himself is not at his best this season. Conceding 284 runs in the 7 matches he has played, he boasts an average economy rate of 10.14 with 4 wickets in the bag.
