The Delhi Capitals registered their fifth win of the tournament against Mumbai Indians and got a step closer to the playoffs.

The match between the Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians saw intense batting firepower, with the former reeling in 257 runs on the board. However, MI fell short of 10 runs as they lost to DC’s impressive bowling attack that crumbled the top order early in the game.

Put to bat first by MI, the Delhi Capitals (DC) put up a strong showing against the Mumbai Indians (MI) with a score of 257 runs. Opener Jake Fraser-McGurk stole the show with a blistering knock of 84 runs off just 27 balls. He stitched together a crucial partnership with Abhishek Porel before he was dismissed in the 8th over. Shai Hope continued the momentum with a quickfire 41 off 17 deliveries, while captain Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs added a valuable 55-run partnership to propel DC to a formidable total.

Among the MI bowlers, skipper Hardik Pandya struggled with the ball, conceding 41 runs in his two overs. Jasprit Bumrah, however, managed to contain the DC batters to some extent, picking up the crucial wicket of Pant and finishing with figures of 1-35 in his four overs.

Mumbai Indians (MI) openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan failed to make a mark as they both were dismissed before the fifth over. Suryakumar Yadav attempted to revive the chase with a quickfire 26 off 13 deliveries, but his dismissal at the end of the powerplay left MI in a precarious position. The middle order, Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya steadied the ship with a crucial 71-run partnership, offering a glimmer of hope for MI. However, Pandya’s wicket to young DC pacer Rasikh Salam proved to be a turning point. Tim David joined Verma in an attempt to resurrect the chase, but his dismissal in the 18th over further dented MI’s hopes.

Verma refused to give up, showcasing some powerful hitting. Despite the effort, MI fell short of the target by 10 runs. DC’s bowling attack, led by Rasikh Salam (34-3) and Mukesh Kumar, who picked up three wickets each, proved too strong for the Mumbai batters. Notably, Mukesh Kumar held his nerve, defending 25 runs in the final over to seal a crucial victory for DC.

This win propels DC to the fifth position on the points table, bringing them a step closer to their playoff dreams.
