MI skipper Hardik Pandya was slapped with a fine of Rs 12 lakh for failing to maintain over-rate during the MI vs PBKS match.
The Mumbai Indians have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL 2024 match against the Punjab Kings on Thursday, April 18th. The penalty was imposed as a result of the team failing to complete their 20 overs of bowling within the allotted time.
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya will bear the brunt of the fine, receiving a Rs 12 lakh penalty. This is the first instance of the MI violating the over-rate rule this season.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the fine in an official statement released after the match. The statement read, “Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Punjab Kings at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, on April 18.”

Speaking of the match, the Mumbai camp clinched a narrow 9-run victory over PBKS as they held their nerves while Ashutosh Sharma bashed the MI bowlers for a quickfire 61 off 28. However, the player of the match, Jasprit Bumrah, who squared off major Punjab batters, admitted that it was a narrow escape. “This was a close game. It was a much closer game than we thought,” told Bumrah in the post-match interview.
Nevertheless, MI booked their third win of the tournament and will look forward to securing more wins. They will face the table-topper Rajasthan Royals on April 22nd.
