The Delhi Capitals crushed the Gujarat Titans with an effortless run chase as the former bundled GT within a sub-par total of 89 runs.
The Delhi Capitals (DC) secured a convincing victory against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in their IPL match on April 17th. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, DC’s bowlers capitalised on Gujarat’s top-order collapse.
With Shubman Gill, the skipper, failing to build up an inning and collapsing in the second over, another opener, Wriddhiman Saha, shared the same fate and was dismissed in the fourth over.
Gujarat could not recover from the early fall of wickets and saw a rapid fall as the top and middle order failed to provide stability, and the team was bundled out for a meagre 89 runs in 17.3 overs. It was only Rashid Khan who made a significant contribution (31 runs) to the below-par total of GT.
The bowling side of the Delhi Capitals shone, with Ishant Sharma having the best figures of 2 wickets for 8 runs in the two overs that he bowled. However, Mukesh Kumar managed to scalp the most wickets (3) for DC by giving away only 14 runs.
In response, DC’s Jake Fraser-McGurk started off the second inning fiercely, hammering 20 runs on 10 balls. However, he soon fell prey to Spencer Johnson in the second over. DC skipper Rishabh Pant, the Player of the Match, made significant contributions too with his valuable stumpings and 16-run knock.
Meanwhile, GT’s bowlers tried to contain the batters, however, despite debutant Sandeep Warrier scalping two wickets, he could not salvage the innings as he leaked 40 runs in three overs.
DC sealed off the win with six wickets to spare and 11.1 overs in hand. This win placed the Delhi Capitals in sixth place on the IPL points table, bringing them a step closer to the playoffs.
