Navjot Singh Sidhu believes Mumbai Indians have the potential to make the IPL 2024 playoffs, alongside Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Rajasthan Royals.
As the IPL 2024 playoff race heats up, the Rajasthan Royals lead with an impressive 14 points, while the competition remains open with no team eliminated yet. Alongside the Royals, the Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are tied at ten points each. The Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans are also in contention, all with eight points.
Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former Indian cricketer, has tipped the Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Chennai Super Kings to secure playoff berths, with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians vying for the fourth spot. Sidhu praised Mumbai’s resilience, believing they have the potential to overcome challenges with a strong bowling lineup and Hardik Pandya’s form.
“Teen teams ko select he kar rahi hai apne aap ko. Chennai Super Kings ho gaya, KKR ho gayi, and Rajasthan Royals ho gaya. 2 teams aisi hai jo mujhe lagta hai… Ek toh Sunrisers Hyderabad, aur ek pata nahi kyu, ek aisa daav khelne ko dil karta hai chahe kuch bhi ho, Mumbai. (These three teams are automatically selecting themselves. Chennai Super Kings have done it, KKR has done it, and Rajasthan Royals have done it. There are two teams that I feel… One is Sunrisers Hyderabad, and for some reason, one team has a desire to play a game, no matter what happens, Mumbai Indians),” Sidhu said in a video for Star Sports.
“I always feel Mumbai Indians have the tenacity to cloud over difficult situations. Choone ki chatt hai vo, jitne thappad maarte jaoge utni he shakt hoti jayegi (They are like a shield of sand, the more blows you strike, the stronger they become). If they can sort out their bowling and Hardik comes back into his own, Mumbai is a lethal side boss. Superb team,” he added.
Mumbai Indians are currently ranking eighth with only three wins in the tournament. Controversies surround the team led by Hardik Pandya, who replaced Rohit Sharma as captain. Sidhu also expressed opinions on the rumors, noting fans’ discomfort with Sharma’s removal. He emphasized success as the key, stating that with more wins, the debate wouldn’t exist.
