Reports suggest that Suryakumar Yadav, who recently underwent sports hernia surgery, may miss the initial games of IPL 2024 as he awaits further fitness tests at the National Cricket Academy.
Mumbai Indians’ key player, Suryakumar Yadav, is expected to miss the initial matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the National Cricket Academy (NCA) has yet to clear him to participate in the upcoming season. Yadav has been sidelined since the T20I series against South Africa, where he captained the Indian team, and subsequently underwent sports hernia surgery in Germany in January.
As per a Cricbuzz report, Suryakumar Yadav has not yet received clearance from the NCA, where he is undergoing recovery, with his next fitness assessment slated for March 21. Initial reports suggested Yadav might only miss the season opener, but his participation remains uncertain pending further updates on his fitness.
Yadav’s cryptic social media post featuring a ‘broken heart’ emoji has further sparked speculation about his availability for the tournament, but there has been no official statement from the BCCI on the matter.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher had expressed the team’s reliance on updates from the BCCI regarding Yadav’s fitness status. Despite facing ongoing fitness challenges, Boucher remained confident in the team’s medical support.
“We are awaiting updates on Suryakumar from the BCCI. We have always been under a cloud of fitness issues but we have a world-class medical team. We may lose one or two in terms of fitness but we have to move on as is sport,” Boucher had told.
With Mumbai Indians set to kick off their campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, fans await further developments regarding Yadav’s potential inclusion in the squad.
