RCB’s batting coach remains confident in Glenn Maxwell’s ability to bounce back despite his slow start in IPL 2024, assuring that Maxwell will contribute significantly to winning matches for the team.
RCB’s batting coach, Neil McKenzie, expressed hope for Glenn Maxwell’s swift turnaround in the ongoing IPL 2024, despite Maxwell’s limited impact, having faced just six balls for three runs in two matches. Maxwell’s disappointing performance, including a duck against Chennai Super Kings, didn’t deter McKenzie’s optimism, citing cricket’s unpredictable nature.
The coach emphasized Maxwell’s potential to win games for RCB, confident that his form will improve as the tournament progresses.
“You know, that’s cricket. It’s up and down. It’s only two games. We know with Maxie, he’s going to win us a couple of games. He has made a slower start to the tournament, but we know that he’s going to win games for us later on in the tournament,” McKenzie said in the pre-match press conference.
“It’s not a case of when that will happen. You’re still in early stages (of IPL). In the high-octane T20 cricket, you know, your fortunes change pretty quickly, you know, they change overnight,” he added.
McKenzie also expressed his delight in witnessing Virat Kohli’s match-winning fifty against Punjab, praising Kohli’s consistent performance and ability to analyze conditions and opposition bowlers effectively. He emphasized Kohli’s invaluable contributions to the team over the years.
Additionally, he highlighted the impressive performances of Indian batters like Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat, and Mahipal Lomror, which have boosted RCB’s confidence and provided flexibility in team composition. Despite this, McKenzie stressed the continued importance of top-order players in shouldering responsibility for the team’s success.
