Riyan Parag credited Sanju Samson and his pre-season practice for his destructive innings against the Delhi Capitals.

Rajasthan Royals’ young batter, Riyan Parag, played an impressive knock against the Delhi Capitals. Coming in at number four, Parag smashed an unbeaten 84 runs off just 45 deliveries, guiding his team to a respectable total of 185.

The Royals found themselves in a spot of bother early on, losing their top order soon within the powerplay. However, Parag displayed remarkable composure, soaking up the pressure and waiting for the right opportunities to score.

Speaking after his innings, Parag credited his pre-season training for his success: “I have put in a lot of practice; I’ve practiced against those kinds of paces (on Nortje). I had my options ready for both sides of the wicket; I was backing my strengths; I knew I had the power; and it’s good when it comes off.”

The 22-year-old also revealed the valuable advice he received from skipper Sanju Samson during a crucial moment in the middle overs. He said, “Sanju Bhai told me to take it deep; I was confident that I could get a lot of runs. It wasn’t easy for a new batter to come and score; you needed someone to stay until the end.”

Subsequently, reflecting on his journey and the pressure he faced, Parag became emotional during the post-match interview. “It’s been tough; I’m a bit emotional now, but I have worked hard and seen the fruits of it now,” Parag remarked.

Parag has faced criticism in the past for inconsistency, even though the Royals have backed him since his debut in 2019. He has consistently performed well in domestic cricket, and hopefully, he will continue to do so in the IPL 2024 as well. The right-handed batter will be next seen facing the Mumbai Indians on April 1st.
