Lucknow Super Giants celebrated a triumphant return home with an eight-wicket win over Chennai, powered by KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock’s impressive 134-run opening partnership.

In the IPL 2024 match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), LSG opted to bowl first after winning the toss. CSK stuck with their new opening pair of Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra, but Ravindra’s struggles continued as he was dismissed for a golden duck in the second over. However, with some late heroics from MS Dhoni, who remained unbeaten on 28 off just nine balls, CSK managed to reach a total of 176/6, with Ravindra Jadeja contributing 57 runs off 40 balls.

LSG’s bowling attack kept CSK from building substantial partnerships, with Ajinkya Rahane top-scoring with 36 off 24 balls and Moeen Ali adding 30 runs off 20 balls. Despite CSK’s efforts, LSG maintained control for much of the innings and restricted their opponents’ scoring opportunities.

In response, Lucknow started their chase of 177 runs strongly, with KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock capitalizing on loose deliveries to build a solid partnership. Despite facing some challenges, both batters reached their half-centuries, setting the stage for Lucknow’s victory.

After Rahul’s dismissal for 82 runs, Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis ensured a smooth finish, guiding Lucknow to victory with an over to spare. Their 134-run opening stand, the highest in this year’s Indian T20 League, put Lucknow in a commanding position, allowing them to secure the win and improve their net run rate.
