KL Rahul opened up after the Sunrisers Hyderabad crushed LSG with an aggressive opening partnership that secured a record-breaking win by 62 balls.
On May 8th, in the match between LSG and SRH, openers Travis Head (89) and Abhishek Sharma (75) tore apart the visitor’s bowling attack as they chased down a target of 166 with a staggering 62 balls to spare. The flawless victory showcased some incredible power-hitting, with the duo smashing a combined 16 fours and 14 sixes.
The dominant batting performance left Lucknow captain KL Rahul speechless in the post-match interview. “I am lost for words. We have watched that kind of batting on TV. But this is unreal batting. Everything seemed to fall into place right away. Kudos to their skills. They have worked hard on their six-hitting skills,” said Rahul, as quoted by News18.
Rahul acknowledged that his bowlers were helpless against the onslaught. “They didn’t give us a chance to know what the pitch played in the second inning. It was hard to stop them as they teed off from ball one,” added Rahul.
Rahul had won the toss and elected to bat first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium; however, he admitted the team’s defeat while acknowledging their decisions. “Once you are on the losing side, there are question marks on the decisions taken. We were 40–50 runs short. When we lost wickets in the powerplay, we couldn’t get any momentum. Ayush and Nicky batted well to get us to 166. But even if we had gotten 240, they could have chased it as well,” remarked the LSG skipper.

This victory for Hyderabad sets a new IPL record. They chased down a 100+ run target in the fewest balls ever, surpassing the previous record held by the Delhi Capitals, who chased down 116 against the Punjab Kings with 57 balls remaining.
With this win, SRH promoted themselves to the 3rd position on the IPL points table and will next face the Gujarat Titans on May 16th.
