CSK pacer Matheesha Pathirana hinted at his exit from IPL 2024 with a recent social media post.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) face a bowling crisis in IPL 2024 as fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana has been ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury. Pathirana’s recent social media post suggested that he is back in Sri Lanka for rehabilitation.
This is another blow for CSK, who are already without pace bowler Deepak Chahar due to injury. The team awaits an official update on Chahar’s availability. Additionally, left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has departed for national duty, leaving CSK with only 36-year-old Richard Gleeson as their fit overseas fast bowler.
While CSK has not officially announced Pathirana’s departure, the young pacer’s social media post on X revealed that he will not be back at the CSK camp for the rest of the season. His post read, “A hard goodbye with my only wish to see the 2024 IPL champion trophy in CSK’s room soon! Grateful to the CSK team for all the blessings and love from Chennai,” followed by a string of images.
Despite the setbacks with the bowlers, CSK displayed resilience, defeating the Punjab Kings by 28 runs in Dharamsala. Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round performance helped restrict the opposition after CSK posted a competitive total. “Some players were battling the flu. We weren’t sure who could play until the morning. Really happy to secure the victory,” said CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad after the win.

CSK currently sits in 3rd place on the IPL points table and will now aim for their seventh win of the season when they take on Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on May 10th.
