Lucknow Super Giants’ pace bowler Mayank Yadav was ruled out of the IPL season due to a recurring lower abdominal tear.
Unfortunately, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pace bowler Mayank Yadav has been ruled out of the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to a lower abdominal tear, confirmed head coach Justin Langer on Saturday. The 21-year-old from Delhi had previously missed matches due to a similar injury earlier in the season. Media reports on May 1st indicated a Grade 1 side strain, coinciding with his inclusion in the BCCI’s pace bowling contract list.
Upon being asked about his chances of returning, Langer replied not so optimistically. “No, we’ll be praying that he can play, hopefully, in the play-offs, but I am a realist as well. It’ll probably be difficult for him to get up for the back-end of the tournament,” Langer said of Mayank, as quoted by News18.
Earlier, Mayank impressed fans with his raw pace, clocking speeds of 155 kilometres per hour. He featured in four IPL matches and picked up seven wickets. However, his bowling stints were cut short on two occasions due to injury.
Scans revealed a tear in the same area where Mayank was previously injured. Langer further commented upon his injury, saying, “There will always be a lot of discussion about fast bowlers, and I know he spoke to [Jasprit] Bumrah after the game, and he reassured him that if he’s going to be a fast bowler, a part of his journey as a young fast bowler, he’s going to get injuries.”
The coach emphasised that Mayank’s rehabilitation programme was thorough. “He was completely pain-free. So, it’s very sad for him, and it’s disappointing for LSG as well that he might not play for the rest of the tournament,” concluded Langer.
